Bellerophon and Pegasus slaying the Chimera
A great value of Greek society is to be collaborative with one's peers and friends and to work together to achieve a goal. By allowing fellow beings to be of assistance, one can successfully overcome obstacles in their path. In the myth involving the slaying of Chimera, the beast fused from many animals, Bellerophon needs to handle this task in order to be with his love, King Proteus' daughter. He was sentenced to death by the Queen Anteia since she felt that he did not appreciate her love for him, and consequently Bellerophon was sent to fight the Chimera, which should have meant certain death (Sunblind). Bellerophon depicts the great value of collaboration since he works with Pegasus, his newly tamed horse, instead of trying to tackle the beast on his own. Despite his status as hero, he does not want to risk even the slightest chance, so he takes Pegasus on his conquest without second-doubting himself. Working together, Pegasus and Bellerophon successfully defeat the dreaded Chimera, proving the fact that collaboration is an effective value when put to practice.
